Aetna has been recognized by national organizations and publications for its achievements as a company, its commitment to diversity, its technology innovations, and for employment-related policies and programs.

  • Aetna President Karen Lynch was named to Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women in Healthcare list in 2017. The list recognizes female leaders in the industry who are leading change and guiding health care delivery improvements across the country.
  • Aetna has been recognized four years in a row as one of America’s most community-minded companies in the 2016 Civic 50, an annual initiative from Points of Light that identifies and recognizes companies who invest talent, time and resources to partner with and help improve the communities where they do business.
  • Aetna President Karen Lynch was named to Fortune's 2016 list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.
  • Aetna once again achieved high Medicare Star Quality Ratings for its Medicare Advantage plans for 2016. Aetna has the highest percentage of members enrolled in plans rated 4.5 overall stars and the highest percentage of members enrolled in plans rated 4.0 overall stars among publicly traded companies*. 
  • Newsweek rated Aetna 64th among its Green 100 companies in 2016, looking at corporate sustainability and environmental impact.
  • Adele Spallone, Head of Clinical & Integrated Services, Group Insurance Disability and Absence Management, received Dorland Health’s 2016 Case In Point Platinum Leadership Award. Under her leadership, Aetna’s Disability Vocational Rehabilitation Department won in 2015 for high-quality return-to-work services and in 20141 the Disability Behavioral Health Unit won for behavioral health case management.
  • Aetna Chairman and CEO Mark T. Bertolini was named to Fortune’s 2015 list of The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders. The list recognizes men and women across the globe who are transforming business, government and philanthropy with the courage to pioneer.
  • Mark T. Bertolini was ranked 25 on the 2015 Politico 50 list, which recognizes “the key thinkers, doers, and visionaries who are reshaping American politics.” Bertolini was described as a “wage warrior” for his efforts to improve wages and health benefits for thousands of Aetna employees.
  • Mark T. Bertolini was named to Harvard Business Review’s 2015 list of the 100 Best-Performing CEOs in the world, an annual ranking that evaluates the long-term performance of the world’s leading CEOs.
  • Mark T. Bertolini was named to Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list in 2015. The list recognizes the most influential individuals in the industry in terms of leadership and impact. Modern Healthcare included Bertolini in the Top 10 in 2014.
  • In 2015, Aetna joined the ranks of the top 50 companies on the Fortune 500® list. 
  • Aetna was ranked No. 15 by Barron’s in its list of the Best Companies for 2016. Barron’s is a weekly newspaper that covers U.S. financial information, market developments and statistics.
  • Aetna’s 11 initiative, created to encourage people to stop smoking, won almost a dozen awards in 2015 including Modern Healthcare: Healthcare Marketing Impact Award, the Content Marketing International Content Marketing Award, Direct Marketing Association Echo Award, W3 award and more.
  • In 2015, Aetna was awarded the National Association of Counties (NACo) Award for Corporate Excellence. Aetna was recognized for its work with NACo to develop strategies for managing the health and well-being of county employees and retirees. 
  • In 2015, Aetna received the Corporate Angel Network Award for providing more than 50 flights to men, women and children in need of cancer treatment to centers across the country. 
  • Aetna International won the Best Group International Private Medical Insurance Provider 2015 from Health Insurance Awards, a leading distinction honoring excellence and professionalism in the global health insurance marketplace. This is the third consecutive year Aetna International won this award. 
  • Aetna was honored by the National Business Group on Health with the 2014 Innovation in Reducing Health Care Disparities Award. We are a three-time recipient of the award.
  • In 2014, for the fourth straight year, Aetna received a ClearMark award from the Center for Plain Language. Aetna won the award for the rewrite and redesign of the Aetna Medicare Advantage enrollment package.
