Fertility care more within reach for everyone

Everyone builds families in different ways. For many, deciding to explore fertility help can be a big step.

Aetna® is proud to be the first national insurer* to cover intrauterine insemination (IUI) as a medical benefit on eligible plans.*

Expanding access to IUI eases family planning

IUI is a type of artificial insemination to get sperm closer to an egg. It can be an important step in a family-building journey.

Our industry-leading policy change expands coverage of IUI, without an infertility diagnosis and regardless of a member’s sexual orientation or partner status. We cover IUI without precertification or the need for extra fertility benefits on eligible plans.* Before this update, most health plans had to purchase extra fertility benefits to include IUI.

How members can access fertility benefits

Members can log in to their Aetna member website to learn about fertility benefits, including IUI. Or call the Member Services number on their ID card.

Coverage of other fertility services — such as medication, surgery, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and donor sperm or eggs — hasn’t changed. It’s based on plan benefits.

Our programs work together

Expanding coverage of IUI builds on our strong fertility offerings. We have programs and benefits that give members support through family planning and pregnancy. Members can learn about what their plan includes on their member website.

Our IUI policy upholds our pledge to innovation and clinical quality. Aetna is dedicated to women’s health. We’ve made it a priority through our women’s health and reproductive and sexual health programs and policies.

We strive to improve access and equitable care for all members. Our industry-leading IUI coverage helps make fertility care more within reach for everyone.
