Guide to access and share your health info

Access your health info

The Interoperability and Patient Access rule (CMS-9115-F) has made it easier to access and share your health info with third-party apps. Sharing health info helps members, payers and providers work together for better, more coordinated care.

The Aetna® payer-to-payer health info exchange lets you share your health info with third-party apps on your smartphone, tablet or other devices.

Your privacy is important

Before you ask us to share your health info with a third-party app, review our health info permissions and privacy page. Learn how we’re committed to protecting your privacy and security.

Give permission to share your info

Do you want us to share your Aetna health info with a third-party app? Follow these steps:

Which health app do you want to use?

  1. Choose an app: Pick the third-party app you want to use to review your health info. If your Aetna plan is available through the app, you can send your health info.
  2. Start the request: Check the app settings to begin the request in the app you choose. The app will send you to the Aetna website to complete authorization.

Finalize new app access of your health info

  1. Complete the steps: After you finish all steps, the third-party app will have access to your health info.
  2. Request info: Follow the app's instructions to request your info from Aetna.

Manage access to your health info

To check or change who has access to your health info, go to the “manage who can view your data” section on the Aetna member website.
