Tips to help you enroll
Medicare Annual Enrollment is here. From October 15 to December 7, you can search, compare and shop for a new Aetna Medicare Advantage plan. Not sure how to enroll? Want to ask questions? Here’s some help.
Why do you need to enroll?
Your current Aetna Medicare Advantage plan ends on December 31, 2026. It won’t be available next year. To avoid a gap in your health plan coverage, you’ll need to enroll in a new plan. To learn more and find out what you need to do next, watch this helpful video.
Hey, there, Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period is coming up, and I want to give you an important heads up.
Every fall, between October 15 and December 7, Medicare Advantage members are given the opportunity to change their plan.
What you might not know is that health insurance companies can make plan changes for the upcoming year and they’ll want to let you know about them during this time, too.
Every once in a while, certain plans are discontinued.
You may have received a letter like this in the mail — notifying you that your Aetna plan is being discontinued.
Don’t worry, receiving this letter doesn’t mean that you’ll immediately lose your Aetna Medicare Advantage coverage. In fact, you still have all the coverage and benefits with your current Aetna plan until the end of the year.
What it does mean is that you‘ll need to select and enroll in a new plan if you want to keep Medicare Advantage coverage, and Aetna can help you choose the one that’s right for you.
But there are some important dates that you should be aware of.
Because your current Aetna plan won’t be offered next year, you have a couple of opportunities to enroll. You can use the Annual Enrollment Period from October 15 to December 7.
Or you can use what’s known as a “Special Enrollment Period” to enroll from December 8 to February 28.
However, your current plan benefits will end after December 31. That means if you have prescription drug coverage, you will lose it, and only have Original Medicare starting January 1.
Aetna makes it convenient to enroll online or over the phone.
Of course, you can always call Aetna for assistance, or reach out to your broker if you have questions or get stuck along the way.
And remember, you can still use your current benefits until the end of the year.
As long as you enroll in your new Medicare plan by December 31, your new plan benefits will begin on January 1.
Here are some dates to remember.
