Hartford, CT – [July 7, 2026]: Aetna® Life Insurance Company is providing an update today regarding a data security incident that occurred at Berkeley Research Group, LLC (“BRG”). BRG is a third-party consulting firm that provides litigation support to Aetna.
What happened: BRG completed an investigation with the assistance of data security and privacy professionals related to suspicious activity in their network. BRG determined that an unauthorized party gained access to certain BRG systems between February 28, 2025, and March 2, 2025, and copied information from their network.
What information was involved: On March 8, 2026, BRG completed its investigation to identify the affected data elements. On April 2, 2026, Aetna concluded that the potentially impacted data included individuals' names along with one or more of the following: address, date of birth, member ID and health information.
What we're doing: BRG has implemented and enhanced safeguards and security measures to further protect their systems. BRG continues to work with leading privacy and cybersecurity professionals to aid in their investigation and response, and they reported the incident to relevant government agencies and law enforcement.
What you can do: BRG and its breach notification services vendor Kroll have notified impacted individuals via First Class Mail and provided 24 months of identity theft restoration and credit monitoring services at no cost. We recommend individuals remain vigilant and review statements received from Aetna and health providers. If you identify charges for services or medications you did not receive, you should contact Aetna immediately.
