Vision plans with clear advantages

We offer vision insurance plans and savings programs that help reduce costs and fit different budgets and needs. They also:  

  • Integrate with Aetna medical plans
  • Offer access to independent providers and five of the six most preferred national optical retailers1
  • Provide convenience and choice of providers, frames and much more

Aetna VisionSM Preferred

Aetna Vision Preferred can be purchased as a stand-alone product. Plans can be purchased regardless of other Aetna coverage. The plan includes reimbursement amounts for both in- and out-of-network care. The vision network includes independent providers and these popular retailers:

  • LensCrafters®
  • Pearle Vision®
  • Sears® Optical
  • Target® Optical
  • JCPenney Optical

Aetna VisionSM

The Aetna Vision insurance plan offers core vision benefits within some medical plans. Great coverage, two ways:

Option #1: Eye exam coverage
Covers one routine eye exam every 12 to 24 months or once per calendar year as part of any of our medical plans.

Option #2: Eyewear coverage

An optional way to supplement eye exam coverage. Eyewear allowance (various amounts) to help pay for eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Our vision discounts are rate-access/discount-only offers for members with Aetna coverage. At no additional premium cost, they offer discounts on:

  • Eye exams
  • Prescription glasses
  • Contact lenses and solutions
  • Prescription and nonprescription sunglasses
  • LASIK surgery
  • Other accessories

Vision insurance plans are underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company (Aetna). Certain claims administration services are provided by First American Administrators, Inc., and certain network administration services are provided through EyeMed Vision Care, LLC (“EyeMed”).

Lens coverage can be used once every benefits period to purchase either 1 pair of eyeglass lenses OR 1 order of contact lenses. Aetna Vision Preferred exclusions and limitations
Exclusions and limitations for vision include: any charges in excess of the benefits, dollar or supply limits stated in the Booklet-Certificate; any exams given during a stay in a hospital or other facility for medical care; eye surgery for the correction of vision, including radial keratotomy, LASIK and similar procedures; prescription sunglasses or light-sensitive lenses in excess of the amount that would be covered for non-tinted lenses; an eye exam that is required by an employer as a condition of employment, an employer is required to provide under a labor agreement or is required by any law of a government; prescription or over-the-counter drugs or medicines; special vision procedures, such as orthoptics, vision therapy or vision training; vision services or supplies that do not meet professionally accepted standards; duplicate or spare eyeglasses or lenses or frames for them; lenses and frames furnished or ordered because of an eye exam that was done before the date the person becomes covered; replacement of lost, stolen or broken prescription lenses or frames; special supplies such as nonprescription sunglasses and subnormal vision aids; vision services that are covered in whole or in part under any other part of this plan, under any other plan of group benefits provided by the policyholder or under any workers’ compensation law or any other law of like purpose. Other exclusions and limitations may also apply

For California members:
Aetna Vision discounts are not offered under the member’s benefits plan contract. Members with covered benefits should exhaust those benefits prior to using these discounts. These services and products are provided by organizations other than Aetna. The discounts are reductions from the provider’s usual fee (retail price) for the service. Actual costs and savings vary by geographic area. For questions about the Aetna Vision discounts, please call 1-800-756-7039. For HMO members, any complaints about these discount programs may be submitted using the process described in the Evidence of Coverage. For more information on these programs, members check with their employer or call the Member Services number on the Aetna ID card.
