Access to Better Quality Care

Looking out for your employees' health

Your employees are your most valued asset. We connect them to the very best care available. They're healthier, happier and more productive. This means savings for you and your employees.

Building better provider networks

We're pioneering a new way to provide care. It's called value-based health care. Most doctors and hospitals are paid based on the number of health care services they provide, such as tests and procedures.

In value-based health care, doctors and hospitals are paid for keeping people healthy and improving the health of people with chronic conditions. This results in better care and lower costs.

Our accountable care organizations are one type of value-based care.

As of early 2016, nearly 6.2 million Aetna members were in value-based health plans. And we're adding more all the time.

Engaging employees to boost health and wellness

The path to wellness starts by getting employees and their families engaged in their own health. To help, we offer programs designed to:

  • Educate and empower employees and their families to stay healthier
  • Improve employee productivity
  • Reduce direct and indirect health costs

Programs with personalized support

We've developed innovative programs to prevent some serious - and costly - health conditions. And to give newborns a healthier chance.

  • We can help you to identify which employees are at risk for metabolic syndrome (MetS), a group of risk factors that increases a person's risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It affects one in four adults in the United States. Our program guarantees a 25 percent reduction in risk factors.* We'll help you choose the program that's right for you and your employees.

  • Obesity is the most common risk factor for developing metabolic syndrome. We have teamed up with Newtopia™ to help high-risk employees lose weight. Through its unique testing, Newtopia creates a personalized nutrition, activity and behavior management plan. In a recent study, Newtopia reduced annual medical costs by $1,464 per program participant. And 76 percent of participants lost an average of more than 10 pounds and reduced their risk factors for MetS.1

  • Some newborns require time in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The NeoCareSM program helps parents become confident, expert caregivers while their children are in the NICU, as well as later at home. Parents in the program get mobile tools, including an app filled with resources and medical information. They also get the services of a dedicated NeoCoachSM, who is a registered nurse or licensed clinical social worker. The program can lead to cost savings, with fewer emergency room visits and hospital readmissions.**

  • Contact your Aetna representative to learn more about these programs.

*Guarantee population defined as individuals who complete a baseline Metabolic Syndrome screening in year one and follow-up screening in year two (minimum 12 months apart). Receive the guarantee by achieving at least 50 percent participation in both year one and year two screenings. Available to groups with a minimum of 300 eligible employees. Not available on a fully insured basis in all states. Please contact your broker or Aetna representative for additional details on state availability.
