Actuarial Leadership Development Program (ALDP)

The ALDP is a rotational program designed to develop well-rounded, experienced actuarial managers positioned to become future leaders at Aetna, while producing Fellows of the Society of Actuaries (FSAs).

Program snapshot

  • Possible locations:
    • Hartford, CT
    • Atlanta, GA
    • Overland Park, KS

    • Harrisburg, PA
  • Total length: ~6 years
    • Rotation length: 18 months
    • To complete the program, participants must complete a minimum of 4 rotations and successfully obtain their actuarial credentials

Program benefits

Aetna is committed to helping ALDP participants obtain actuarial credentials. We pay for textbooks, review guides, exam fees and review seminars for actuarial exams. We also provide sponsored study times and the support of a strong actuarial community. With all of these tools, we are proud to have consistently above-average pass rates for SOA exams.

Preferred qualifications

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher with a focus in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related fields

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and initiative
  • Previous actuarial experience a plus

The Consumer Business PDP enables participants to network across multiple levels of management and gain experience in various business areas. At the end of the program, participants will understand how the Consumer Business segment is helping reshape the future of health care.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Coursework in technology, marketing and consumer business
  • 1-3 years of experience or 2-3 internships in a professional field

Financial Leadership Development Program (FLDP)

The FLDP is designed to develop high-potential candidates interested in accelerating their careers in financial management. Participants rotate through key roles within our Finance organization and are provided with tools to develop the leadership and functional skills needed to rapidly advance within Aetna.

Program snapshot

The FLDP offers three, one-year rotations to expose participants to a variety of unique and exciting opportunities within Aetna, while also acquiring a solid understanding of a risk and controls framework.

  • Total program length: 3 years
    • Rotation length: 1 year

    • Controllers or Internal Audit (required for all participants)

The FLDP provides a dynamic, diverse work experience and challenging and rewarding opportunities through its rotational structure. It also offers the following opportunities:

  • Yearly training and immersion program for incoming and current FLDP participants
  • Extensive networking opportunities with senior leaders
  • Strong peer connections and team camaraderie
  • Formal mentors from throughout the company

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be placed in a full-time position to leverage the skills they have learned and fine-tuned throughout the past three years. The FLDP continues to provide professional development opportunities after completion of the program, including the opportunity for top performers to enter programs designed for rapid advancement to financial leadership positions.

Interested in applying?

The primary entrance requirement for the FLDP is successful completion of Aetna’s Financial Internship Program during the previous summer. Recruitment for both the internship program and full-time opportunities takes place from August-October, with on-campus interviews at select schools. We also accept applications through our online portal below during recruitment periods. Most applicants can expect a decision by the end of November for a start date in June.

Human Resources Leadership Development Program (HR LDP)

The HR LDP exposes participants to all aspects of our Human Resources function, while providing valuable opportunities to learn about business operations and develop a strategic mindset. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be offered a full-time position within our Human Resources organization.

  • Location: Hartford, CT, with consideration for other office locations based on business needs
  • Total length: 2 years
    • Rotation length: 8 months

Program benefits

HR LDP participants learn to refine their interpersonal and management skills and build deep client relationships—all of which are foundations for becoming an effective leader. Participants also benefit from a strong personalized focus on their career development and growth through exposure to Aetna’s business. Preferred qualifications

Diversity of background, experience and thinking is very important to success in the HR LDP. Additionally, we look for these qualifications:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher, all majors considered
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal abilities
  • Keen business sense

Aetna IT Technical Training Program

The IT Technical Training Program is a two-year rotational program that helps participants build a base of technical expertise, leading to accelerated careers in the IT organization. Participants complete the program by following one of several rotational tracks. We developed these tracks to give participants a diverse experience that sets them up for success in a permanent position.

  • Total program length: 2 years
    • Rotation length: 6 months, though time may vary by technical track

The IT Technical Training Program offers numerous opportunities outside of its formal rotations, including:

  • A formal mentor within the participant’s technical track
  • Formal technical training programs

  • Formal networking opportunities with senior IT leaders

Preferred qualifications

  • GPA of 3.4 or above with a concentration in IT (business information systems, computer science, management information systems, etc.)
  • Understanding of Windows Operating Systems (Windows 2008/Windows 2012)
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment
  • Time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous work experience (<7 years) in IT a plus but not required
  • Security+ Certification and/or CCNA & Network+ Training a plus

E. E. Cammack Group School Sales Development Program

Group School is a sales leadership development program that gives participants a chance to join a company leading the way in health care reform. The program started in 1924 and continues to prepare recent college graduates, as well as established professionals, for various sales roles throughout the organization.

Today, alumni hold high-profile positions at Aetna and other leading companies within the health care industry. In sales, our goal is to meet customer needs, while helping people make better decisions about their health and health care spending.

Program snapshot

Group School is a year-long development program with US and international placements available. Program participants start their journey in Hartford, CT, for the first six to eight weeks of training. They then move to regional sales offices for additional on-the-job training. Group School offers participants opportunities in various business segments, and they go through various learning tracks:

  • Aetna and industry knowledge
  • Technical training, including:
    • Aetna’s products
    • Underwriting practices
  • Soft skills training:
    • Presentations training
    • Consultative solutions
    • Negotiations training

Program benefits

It is critical to learn from successful sales leaders and subject matter experts. Our program offers extensive networking, mentoring and coaching opportunities. And its structured learning approach includes classroom-based and hands-on training in these areas:

  • Sales training and acumen
