NPI: The One Number You'll Need For All Payers
The HIPAA-mandated National Provider Identifier (NPI) is going to make conducting electronic transactions with multiple payers easier because it is the one number you can use for all payers.
Did You Know That An NPI:
- Is required for all health care professionals (including dentists) who transmit health information by way of standard HIPAA electronic transactions
- Must be used to conduct electronic transactions to all of your payers after the May 23, 2007 compliance date
- Is a 10-digit unique identification number that is yours for life
- Can be used for all your payers

- Online at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov.
- By completing a paper application. You can download a copy through https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov or call 1-800-465-3203 to request a copy.
