Aetna Dental has successfully contracted with a vendor-based dental network of approximately 6,000* available dental practice locations. The "Aetna Dental PPO II" network supplements our existing network, and our PPO network now consists of 104,000* available dental practice locations. The expanded network gives plan members a greater selection of Aetna-preferred dentists and, with negotiated rates available at more locations, may help lower the cost of care.

Pricing

• There is no impact to the self-funded per-employee-per-month (PEPM) fee. For self-funded plan sponsors, Aetna will retain a portion of the savings (typically 40 percent) generated by this expanded network, while the plan sponsor realizes 60 percent of the savings.
• Fully insured new business rating will reflect Aetna Dental PPO II discounts and the expanded network. We anticipate including the Aetna retained savings in the claim experience, as we do for the National Advantage™ Program (NAP).** The remaining savings should favorably impact experience used in renewal rating.

Availability

• Aetna Dental PPO II is automatically included in all fully insured dental PPO quotes and can be offered in self-funded quotes.
• For existing fully insured customers, the Aetna Dental PPO II is automatically included. Communication materials are available for you to help your clients communicate the availability of the larger network to their employees.
• Aetna Dental PPO II is available to self-funded customers. Contract amendments to support the expanded network are needed.

Providing a transparent member experience

For employees and retirees who are seeking dentists and are registered for Aetna Navigator®, our secure member website located at www.aetnanavigator.com, a DocFind® search will automatically include Aetna Dental PPO II dental locations. 

• Those not registered for Aetna Navigator and who access DocFind directly will be presented with one of the following options, depending on which PPO network plan your client offers:
• Dental PPO/PDN with PPO II network
• Dental EPP with PPO II network
• Aetna HealthFund®/Aetna DentalFund® with PPO II network

The Aetna Dental PPO II network dentists*** are installed in our systems and claims will be handled as if they were part of our standard dental PPO network, i.e., at the same preferred level of benefits.
