We do the homework; you reap the rewards.

The Aetna Performance Network puts top-performing specialists within reach for our members. It offers the potential to control costs by providing access to quality care.

Our Institutes of Excellence Network is part of our National Medical Excellence® program, supporting members facing a transplant or other complex medical procedure.

Top-Performing Specialists
Members often have little access to independent, objective information when they choose specialists. The Aetna Performance network is one of a series of industry-leading initiatives from Aetna designed to:
  • Address rising medical costs
  • Maintain access to quality care
  • Help consumers make more informed health care decisions
At the core of the Aetna Performance Network are Aexcel-designated specialists. These are specialists who
  • Meet certain defined measures of clinical performance
  • Demonstrate cost-efficiency
  • Achieve a balance of quality and effectiveness
Our criteria are based on nationally-recognized standards, consistent with leading associations such as the American Heart Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The Aetna Performance Network can be coupled with most Aetna products, including our consumer-directed Aetna HealthFund® plans.

Transplant Support
With our Institutes of Excellence (IOE) network, members have access to facilities that have a record of successful treatment and superior medical standards. Our transplant program also has a dedicated claims and member services staff.

IOE is part of our National Medical Excellence Program. With a full time medical director and registered nurse managers, we are able to provide valuable support to our members during complex and specialized situations. Features include
  • Support through every phase of the transplant process
  • Help with finding appropriate care when traveling outside the United States and facing a foreign hospital emergency admission
  • Guidance if diagnosed with a rare disease requiring unique treatment
Additional Features:
  • Aexcel-designated specialists are easy to locate our online DocFind® provider directory or printed directories - just look for the star! Aexcel-designated
  • Institutes of Excellence facilities are also located on DocFind.
