Six states have enacted disability laws which require employers to provide benefits to their employees, for disabilities caused due to a non-occupational injury or illness. The six states are California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and Rhode Island and their disability laws are commonly referred to as state mandated benefit plans or statutory plans.
Although eligibility differs between each of these six states, the laws require employers to provide coverage to all full-time, part-time and temporary employees working in these states. Aetna can provide statutory plans for Hawaii, New Jersey and New York, but can only provide supplemental Aetna STD plans for California, Puerto Rico and Rhode Island.

Life and Disability benefits and insurance plans contain exclusions and limitations. See plan documents for a complete description of coverage.
