Pharmacy Plan Designs

Integrated or stand-alone pharmacy plan options

With Aetna Pharmacy Management you can:

  • Combine (integrate) Aetna prescription drug benefits or insurance plans with other Aetna products
    or
  • Choose a stand-alone Aetna pharmacy product if you use multiple carriers to underwrite or administer your current benefits plans

Either way, we’ll work with you to put together a plan that works — for you and your employees.

Did you know?

Access to Aetna’s drug benefit appears to offset medical expenses the most. In an ongoing study from Aetna Informatics, Aetna pharmacy products when integrated with medical products appear to have the greatest influence on total medical cost.1

Familiar coverage, at a price you can afford
Choose between our single tier, two tier and three tier plan designs. We can help you figure out which plan — and what copay amounts — make sense for you and your employees.

Traditional prescription drug coverage with a twist
For more cost control, take a look at our consumer-directed plans (our “fund” plans). They encourage employees to become more savvy cost-conscious consumers. That can mean savings for you, too.

Aetna PharmacyFund® Plan
A fund, deductible and prescription drug plan all rolled into one. We can walk you through this plan step by step. And we can help you communicate it to your employees.

By managing their own fund, employees quickly learn the financial impact of each prescription purchase. They begin to shop around area pharmacies for the best price and talk to their doctor and pharmacist about generic alternatives.

Aetna HealthFund®, Health Savings Account Plans
Want to integrate your medical and pharmacy plans and still take advantage of a consumer-directed plan?

We have consumer-directed medical plans that can be combined with prescription drug benefits. They work very much like the PharmacyFund plan except members can use fund or savings account dollars for both pharmacy and medical expenses.

Member motivators
Slowing the rise in prescription drug costs is good for everyone. The cost of prescription drug benefits is often the largest health cost increase employers face from year to year.

You know that using generic drugs instead of brand-name drugs can help control drug costs. But did you know that you can design plans that encourage this and other cost-saving behaviors in your employees? Talk to us about our Save a Copay® and Aetna Healthy ActionsSM – Rx Savings programs.*

* Program availability varies by funding arrangement, service area and underlying plan. For instance, the Aetna Healthy Actions program is only available to eligible self-funded employers. The Save a Copay program is currently not available for commercial fully insured members in Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Washington and Wisconsin. (Members in excluded states are based on network service area for HMO plans and contract state for PPO based plans.)
