Aetna DentalFund® Plan

Put affordable dental insurance costs in your employees’ control

Employees can take a more active role in their dental care with the Aetna DentalFund insurance plan.

  • DentalFund is like a bank account that can help your employees pay for eligible dental expenses ― plan deductibles and more.
  • You establish the fund and decide the amount you want to contribute each year.

Here are a few of the reasons why Aetna DentalFund is a great choice for you and your employees:

  • Tax advantages. Your dental insurance fund dollar contributions are not considered taxable income.
  • Plan options. The base dental plan may be a Preferred Provider Organization plan (PPO)* or an Indemnity dental insurance plan.
  • Choice. Choose the deductible, coinsurance and fund amounts that work for your business. Rollover. Any unused funds are carried over from year to year, unless the employee switches plans or leaves the company.
  • Flexibility. Option to reimburse certain non-covered procedures by the fund.
  • No referrals. Employees can visit any licensed dentist.

Dental insurance plan features

Any amount paid from their fund counts toward an employee’s deductible.
For instance:

  • If a member has $200 in his or her dental insurance fund, and the deductible is $175, the member will have “paid” all of the deductible after spending $175 from the fund.
  • After a member pays the deductible, he or she will pay just a percentage of the costs.
  • The percentage of costs the member may pay is known as the coinsurance amount. The fund will cover this amount until the fund is gone.
  • The dental plan pays for covered care up to a yearly maximum.
  • There are age and frequency limits for certain services.

Dental insurance plan funding options

  • Choose a self-funded or fully insured funding arrangement.
  • If you select the self-funded option, you can allow the fund to help pay for dental expenses not typically covered, including certain services that have age and frequency limits.
  • If you select the fully insured option, you pay a premium that covers the fund and plan benefits. We assume the risk for both.
