Aetna Names Michael Guyette Region Head


JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 23, 2010 —  Michael J. Guyette, an accomplished executive with 20 years of health insurance industry experience, has joined Aetna (NYSE:  AET) as Region Head responsible for managing business operations in the District of Columbia and the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.  He will begin his new duties May 10.

Guyette will have managerial responsibility for sales, marketing, underwriting, network development and medical economics operations, and will lead local market efforts to control medical costs, improve quality and strengthen customer and broker relationships.

Since 2002, Guyette has held senior leadership positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, most recently as senior vice president of the insurer’s diversified business unit.  He previously served as chief sales officer and as a group vice president with the national business unit.

Guyette was responsible for the strategy development, revenue and profit of all non-core health business to support the diversification efforts of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida.  Under his leadership, the insurer consistently grew both profits and membership in the state.

Prior to joining Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Guyette held a variety of senior sales and marketing positions with Independence Blue Cross and AmeriHealth in both Philadelphia and Houston.  He also worked for Prudential Healthcare and Continental Insurance in various Texas and Oklahoma markets.

Guyette graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in finance and earned an MBA from Villanova University.
