New Mobile Application From Aetna Helps College Students Stay Fit

Also new this Fall, Aetna Student Health joins Facebook

HARTFORD, Conn., September 30, 2009 — The “Freshman 15” is a rite of passage for many college students. Now, students can manage their weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle with a free calorie tracker application from Aetna Student Health that delivers daily nutrition and fitness tips to any BlackBerry smartphone. “Get Counting with Aetna Student Health” also features resources on sexual health, alcohol awareness and stress management, insightful quizzes and polls, health alerts and more.

“Our goal is to provide students with important health and wellness information and reach them in mediums that are relevant to their lifestyle,” said Dr. Wendy Richards, National Medical Director for Aetna Student Health.

Students can also visit the official Facebook page for Aetna Student Health to get the latest health and wellness information. New this fall, the page features videos, news feeds, and other content that is specifically tailored to help college students through the fast paced and sometimes stressful college lifestyle.

“Social media is a fun and easy way to stay connected,” says Dr. Richards. “It also allows for the quick dissemination of information, which will be critical this flu season. Students are one of the most vulnerable populations for H1N1 flu so it’s important they take steps to protect themselves.”

Both the calorie tracker and the Facebook page feature H1N1 informational resources to help college students prevent infection and stay healthy.
