Aetna Launches “Consumer Portal” in California

SANTA ANA, Calif., June 22, 2009 — Aetna (NYSE: AET) announced today that California residents looking for individual health plans will now be able to use Aetna’s “Consumer Portal” – a simple, easy to use online quoting and application system available at www.aetnaindividual.com.

Consumers using this new system can click “Get a Quote” to receive a quote on benefits plans in their area within seconds, just by entering their zip code, gender and date of birth. They can then compare different plan features side-by-side, choose the plan that best fits their needs and instantly apply online.

“We know that many consumers are not used to looking for insurance on their own, so we want to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible,” said Gary Culp, West Region general manager for Aetna’s Consumer Segment. “This is especially true in California, where we have seen a significant increase in interest so far this year for our Aetna Advantage Plans* for Individuals and Families.”

Additional benefits
While consumers will notice an improved, simplified experience through www.aetnaindividual.com, the Consumer Portal will also help Aetna brokers and agents that work with consumers. Through a secure, password-protected website, brokers will be able to run quotes, create applications on behalf of their client, and review the status of their various applicants.

Finally, this new system will allow Aetna to more efficiently process applications that are submitted online, either from consumers or brokers.

“Our primary goal with the Consumer Portal was to enhance the consumer experience, but we really tried to make improvements for everybody who is involved with the process of purchasing and selling Aetna Advantage plans,” Culp said.
