CHICAGO, March 18, 2009 — Employees of small Illinois businesses can now obtain preventive health care services without being charged a co-pay, under a new suite of plans being offered by Aetna (NYSE: AET) called "Wellness on Us" plans. "With today's economy, reducing out-of-pocket costs is more important than ever," said Robert Mendonsa, president of Aetna's North Central Region small and middle market business. "Smaller companies want to provide high-quality, affordable plans for their employees," said Mendonsa. "But at the same time, they're afraid some workers will shy away from getting preventive screenings if they have to pay out of their own pockets. These new Aetna plans are designed to address those concerns. And prevention can help reduce future medical costs and increase productivity." Aetna is offering 29 different plan designs for small-group customers in Illinois, including point of service, PPO and HMO options. Many of the plans can also accommodate a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). The plans include coverage for prescription drugs. In all of the plans, members are not charged a co-pay when they visit the doctor for routine vision exams; physicals; well-child visits; immunizations: gynecological exams; and mammograms. Illinois is the second state where Aetna is offering such plans to small businesses. The plans will be marketed and sold by agents and brokers throughout the state. Aetna provides health benefits to 540,000 members in Illinois. Those members have access to contracted networks that include 200 hospitals and more than 18,500 physicians. About Aetna |
