HARTFORD, Conn., February 06, 2009 — Aetna (NYSE: AET) today announced that Floyd Green, head of Community Relations, will be recognized with the 2009 Sankofa Award at the Urban League of Greater Hartford's 2009 Black History Awards Celebration. The awards celebration will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at La Renaissance in East Windsor, beginning at 6 p.m. More information about the program is available from the Urban League of Greater Hartford. (www.ULGH.org). As defined by the Urban League, the word SANKOFA is derived from the SAN (return) KO (go), FA (look, seek and take) in the Akan language of Ghana and literally means 'go back and retrieve,' reflecting the Akan belief that people should take the wisdom of the past forward into the future. "Floyd Green has been an outstanding member of the Urban League of Greater Hartford's Board of Directors," said James Willingham, president and chief executive officer of the Urban League of Greater Hartford. "Mr. Green has served the greater Hartford community with distinction, and continues to serve as a role model for our youth. We are proud to honor him with the Annual Smith Whiley Sankofa Award." Green has been with Aetna since 2004, focused on the company's emerging markets strategy. Recently he was named head of a new Community Relations organization, which includes Aetna's Corporate Public Involvement (CPI) and Emerging Markets activities. The goal of this new organization is to build deeper, stronger community relationships, and to build awareness of Aetna as a trusted community partner, committed to health and wellness within the communities it serves. |
