HARTFORD, Conn., December 09, 2008 — Aetna (NYSE: AET) and NaviMedix, the national leader in real-time health care communications, announced today that Aetna's secure provider website via the NaviNet® platform was recognized for innovative connectivity achievement with Health Data Management magazine's second annual Editor's Choice Award for "Consumer Connectivity." The award will be presented today at the 4th Annual World Healthcare Innovation and Technology Congress (WHIT 4.0). The "Consumer Connectivity" award is one of only five awards given by Health Data Management. The category recognizes the most innovative health care information technology that promotes improved quality of life of patients and the financial viability of health care organizations. The award specifically acknowledges Aetna for its forward-thinking work with NaviNet as its secure web-based provider communication solution of choice. "Aetna is committed to better serving physicians and hospitals and providing our members with information and tools to help them make informed health care decisions. Aetna's secure provider website via NaviNet makes it easier for physicians and hospitals to do business with Aetna and can help physicians and members work together to better coordinate care and improve health outcomes. We are pleased that our efforts have been recognized by Health Data Management," said Paul Marchetti, head of Aetna National Networks and Contracting Services. All organizations featured in Health Data Management's print edition and related online coverage in 2008 were considered for this award. Aetna and NaviNet were selected based on a print feature article in June 2008 entitled, "Aetna's New Portal Strategy." The story describes how and why Aetna adopted NaviNet as its communications platform of choice to connect more than 170,000 of its contracted physicians across the country, setting a new standard of innovation in health care information exchange. "We are honored that NaviNet is recognized as a contributor to Aetna's efforts to improve patient care and to help physicians get the most out of each patient encounter," said Brad Waugh, president and CEO of NaviMedix. "NaviNet connects our network of over 670,000 providers to insurers for real-time information exchange that substantially enhances the physician-patient relationship." Complete coverage of the Health Data Management Editor's Choice Awards held in Washington, D.C., will be featured in Health Data Management's February 2009 issue. About Aetna
