Aetna’s HSA Online Video Wins Insight Award For Customer Advocacy
Insight forums recognizes educational video for helping customers and members better understand HSAs
HARTFORD, Conn., November 12, 2007 — Aetna (NYSE: ΑET) received the Insight Award for Customer Advocacy in Health Care from Insight Forums for the Aetna Health Savings Account (HSA) online video, available at www.aetna.com/hsa/video. The video, created to help customers and members better understand their HSA plan, is part of Aetna’s efforts to offer tools and information to help customers and members make better informed decisions about their health care.
"Employers are asking for assistance beyond the typical open enrollment communications to help employees become more engaged consumers of health care services," said Robin Downey, Aetna’s head of product development. "This video is one example of how we are providing simple, easy-to-understand educational materials to our customers and members through a variety of media, including written materials and online tools and videos like the HSA online video, to help our members get the most out of their HSA."
Aetna was one of the first insurers to offer HSAs in 2004. Today the HSA has been chosen by more than 6,000 customers, with nearly 300,000 HSA eligible members.
The Aetna HSA Online Video received the Insight Award for Customer Advocacy in Health Care for providing easy-to-understand information that customers can share with their employees. The video answers the following questions:
- What is an HSA?
- How does it work with a health plan?
- How does money get into the account?
- How do members access health care using the plan?
Surveys and research recently conducted by Segal/Sibson and the Conference Board indicate that information and tools are critical to successfully adopting consumer directed health plans like an HSA. In fact, Segal/Sibson’s 2006 Survey of Consumer-Driven Health Plans showed that "communications plays a vital role in the success of consumer-directed health plans." Furthermore, the Conference Board released a report saying "the lack of a coherent message can prove fatal to consumer directed health plan adoption because employees are unlikely to enroll in a plan they do not understand."
