HARTFORD, Conn., February 14, 2006 — As part of Aetna’s (NYSE: ΑET) ongoing steps to make doing business easier for health care professionals, nonparticipating medical and dental providers and their office staff now can access online tools, information and resources available on Aetna’s secure website for health care professionals.
Health care providers who do not participate in Aetna’s network can register to use the website to submit claims; check claims status; verify benefits; view payment and billing policies; enter precertifications; check referrals; and access Clinical Policy Bulletins. The site also features Clear Claim Connection, which enables health care professionals to see how billing codes submitted for payment will be handled by Aetna’s claims-processing system. Aetna was the first health insurer to offer this Internet-based tool.
"We want to make business transactions easier for the health care professionals who take care of Aetna members, and that includes nonparticipating medical and dental providers and their office staff. It makes sense to also offer them the benefits of around-the-clock access to our suite of real-time tools and resources," said Molly Knorr, Aetna’s head of National Network, Contracting and Strategy.
Electronic transactions streamline processes, reduce paperwork, and can result in faster, more accurate information and fewer phone calls. For example, physicians who submit claims to Aetna online can receive expedited electronic payments. Recent enhancements to the company’s provider website include access to online claim report request forms and text-readable electronic remittance advice (ERA) that can be downloaded.
The site is open to health care professionals, as well as office staff in nonparticipating physician offices, hospitals and ancillary facilities, who have submitted a claim or a W-9 form to Aetna.
Nonparticipating physicians, hospitals and other facilities can register at www.aetna.com, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by selecting "Doctors & Hospitals," then "Physician Self-Service" and "Register Now!" Dentists can register at www.aetnadental.com by selecting "Register Now!" In both cases, health care professionals will be asked to choose a user name, password and security phrase, and will receive a confirmation letter at the primary office address on file with Aetna.
The electronic environment is constantly evolving, and Aetna continually gathers input and refines processes to meet the changing business and information needs of health care professionals. Aetna’s website for health care professionals is part of Aetna Service OptionsSM for Health Care Professionals, the company’s integrated solution focused on providing a quality service experience -- from the moment health care professionals contact Aetna through the end of their interactions.
The company offers an array of easy-to-use electronic and telephonic options for obtaining information and transacting business. These options give physicians and office staff flexibility to choose whatever interaction works best for their offices.
