Aetna Offering New Individual Plans in Pennsylvania
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA, March 24, 2003 — Aetna (NYSE: ΑET) announced today that it has begun marketing three new individual commercial health insurance plans in 31 Pennsylvania counties. These new, medically underwritten Pennsylvania Individual Advantage Plans provide expanded coverage options for many uninsured individuals and families in the state, according to Frank McCauley, Aetna’s general manager for small business in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
"We believe these new plans will give uninsured people in Pennsylvania, particularly the working uninsured, a new set of choices to help meet their health insurance needs," said McCauley. "It is often very difficult for individuals to find basic, affordable coverage for themselves and their families. Aetna has worked diligently to develop tailored products that meet their unique needs."
Aetna is offering individuals three new plan designs. All three plans feature coverage for routine checkups and preventive care, specialty care, hospitalization and surgery, diagnostic testing, and emergency care. The three plans also include prescription drug coverage, subject to a deductible, co-payment and calendar-year maximum.
Aetna presently covers more than 14,000 Pennsylvania residents under individual plans. But for the first time, the plans now are being sold both directly to consumers and through independent insurance agents.
"We’re very happy to see affordable, quality individual coverage being offered by a top carrier in the Pennsylvania marketplace," said Rick Mancuso, of Delaware Valley Brokerage Services Inc., Bristol, Pa. "Aetna’s plans offer comprehensive benefits, including coverage for preventive care, maternity care and prescription drugs."
