Aetna U.S. Healthcare Introduces Medicare HMO In Greater Chicago Area
CHICAGO, IL, November 7, 1997 — Aetna U.S. Healthcare of Illinois Inc., the health business unit of Aetna, Inc. (NYSE: ΑET), is introducing a Medicare Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) product to Medicare beneficiaries in the Greater Chicago area, which also includes Lake County, Indiana. The Federal Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) recently approved Aetna U.S. Healthcare’s application to offer the Aetna U.S. Healthcare Golden Medicare PlanTM in this area.
"We believe offering Medicare beneficiaries in the Chicago area an HMO product to help address their critical health improvement and financial security needs demonstrates our commitment to wellness and patient-centered care," said Frank Sheehy, Aetna U.S. Healthcare’s general manager for the Greater Chicago area.
The new plan offers Medicare beneficiaries all the benefits of traditional Medicare, plus a number of additional health benefits, including: routine physical examinations, immunizations beyond those typically covered by Medicare; wellness and disease prevention programs; prescription drug coverage; and allowances for hearing aids and glasses. Medicare beneficiaries may choose from different levels of benefits, including a "zero premium" option.
"Health promotion, coupled with the early detection of illness, can greatly improve the quality of life Medicare beneficiaries enjoy," Sheehy said. "And Aetna U.S. Healthcare’s coordination of primary and specialty care provides high-quality, affordable health care for network beneficiaries when they do get sick."

As members of the Aetna U.S. Healthcare Golden Medicare Plan, beneficiaries will have access to health care providers in the company’s Greater Chicago area HMO network.
Aetna U.S. Healthcare will be holding informational meetings over the next few months in the Greater Chicago area with licensed representatives specially trained to answer Medicare HMO questions for Medicare beneficiaries. The Greater Chicago area service area includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will counties in Illinois and Lake County in Indiana.
