Prescription Coverage Through Work

Managing prescription drug costs

The price of prescription drugs may be the largest health cost increase you face each year. Our pharmacy benefits and insurance plans have one main goal: to help you and your family spend less on prescription drugs.

With our pharmacy plans, you have two ways to save.

  • Generic drugs – Generics generally work the same way brand-name drugs do, but typically cost less.
  • Mail-order pharmacy – Many times, your cost share for a three-month supply of a drug bought through mail order will be the same as a cost share for a two-month supply at a retail pharmacy.

Next step

Ask your company's benefits administrator for help in choosing the Aetna pharmacy plan that is right for you.

*Specialty medications through Aetna Specialty Pharmacy and the Specialty Pharmacy Network may not be available to California HMO members.  Talk to your doctor about the appropriate way to get the specialty medications you need.  Doctors may have agreed to dispense and administer these drugs to you themselves.  Or they may write a prescription so you can fill them at any participating retail or mail-order pharmacy.
