Programs to help you be safe

Your plan may have certain requirements before a drug is covered. It’s not meant to make it harder for you. It’s meant to make things safer for you. And to ensure you’re getting the most cost-effective treatment possible.

Easy ways to order your prescriptions

You can:

• Get your regular prescriptions by mail with Aetna Rx Home Delivery^®***. 
• Visit a retail pharmacy. (You may save by using mail order for regular prescriptions.)
• Use Aetna Specialty Pharmacy.  It’s for drugs that are often injected or infused. Or that require special handling.

Tools for drug savings and smart decisions

You can search any drug name to learn more about it. You’ll find what it’s used for, how you should take it and more. Or see if drugs you take may cause side effects when mixed with other drugs, vitamins...or even certain foods.

Have you heard of the Aetna Preferred drug list? It’s a list of generic and brand drugs that are considered safe and cost effective. You can find the list for your plan here.

** Specialty medications through Aetna Specialty Pharmacy and the Specialty Pharmacy Network may not be available to California HMO members.  Talk to your doctor about the appropriate way to get the specialty medication you need.  Doctors may have agreed to dispense and administer these drugs to you themselves.  Or they may write a prescription so that members can fill them at any participating retail or mail-order pharmacy.
