Specialty drugs are medicines that treat complex conditions like:

• Multiple sclerosis
• HIV/AIDS.

They may need to be injected, infused or taken by mouth.

They often need to be stored and shipped under special conditions, like refrigeration.

Aetna Specialty Pharmacy* sends your medicines to you quickly and safely with secure packaging—usually a 30-day supply. Nurses and pharmacists can answer your questions anytime so you can stay on track.

Some specialty drugs are covered under the Aetna Specialty CareRx^SM** program. You still get the same helpful services and personal attention. Check to see if you have the Aetna Specialty CareRx benefit as part of your prescription drug coverage.

* Specialty medications through Aetna Specialty Pharmacy and the Specialty Pharmacy Network may not be available to California HMO members.  Talk to your doctor about the appropriate way to get the specialty medications you need.  Doctors may have agreed to dispense and administer these drugs to you themselves.  Or they may write a prescription so you can fill them at any participating retail or mail-order pharmacy.
