- My primary care physician (PCP) participates in an Aetna health plan, but isn't listed in the directory. Why?
All providers affiliated with Aetna have the option to not appear in the directory, either online or in print. Member Services, however, always has information about which providers participate in an Aetna health plan. The phone number for your Member Services office is on your identification card.
- How do I get a provider directory?
Your employer's benefits office is your best source for a provider directory for your area.
- How do I change my primary care physician?
You can add or change your choice of primary care physician or dentist for yourself or your family by filling
out this form. Changes will be effective upon Aetna's acknowledgment to you of our receipt of this form.
- Can I change my PCP any time I want?
HMO, Open Access HMO, QPOS, USAccess, Elect Choice EPO, Open Access Elect Choice EPO, Managed Choice POS, Open Access Managed Choice POS:

Currently, providers in our PPO and Family of Products networks (Advantage PLUS, Advantage, Family Preventive and Basic) are available on DocFind®.
- Where can I find report card data on doctors on this site?
We do not have report card data available on the Web, however by using DocFind® you can find out whether a doctor is Board Certified, what medical school they attended and what year they graduated.
- How will I be affected if my Primary Care Physician (PCP) leaves the network?
If your physician leaves the network, you will be asked to select another Aetna participating provider. You can use DocFind®,* our online provider directory, to select from the wide variety of participating physicians in your network. All of our Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) are required to pass stringent credentialling requirements so that only providers who meet our standards participate in our networks. As part of Aetna's ongoing commitment to quality, our PCPs are recredentialled approximately every two years.
* Availability varies by service area.
- My physician would like to know if he or she has been accepted to participate in my Aetna network. Can you tell me the status of his (or her) application?
Please ask your physician to contact his Aetna Professional Service Coordinator to obtain his network participation status.
- What happens if my current physician is not a participating provider?
Ask your physician to contact your Member Services office at the toll-free number listed on your ID card. If you do not have an ID card yet, please contact your employer's benefits office to obtain this toll-free number. A Customer Service Professional will help your physician get in touch with the appropriate Network Management office.
