Pre-existing Conditions

Explanation

Under the Affordable Care Act, all Americans will have access to health care coverage regardless of a pre-existing condition.  A pre-existing condition is a physical or mental health condition, disability or illness that is diagnosed prior to enrollment in a health plan. Pre-existing condition exclusions are prohibited for children under 19 for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010.  Starting in 2014, this prohibition will be extended to include adults.
