Regional Community Grants
Aetna is committed to enhancing the quality of health care, with a special emphasis on improving racial and ethnic health care equality through our business practices and charitable giving.
Aetna and the Aetna Foundation will award grants for philanthropic initiatives focused on the following health care issues.
Grant requests ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 will be considered. Please refer to the closing dates located on the Apply For A Grant page.
OBESITY
The prevalence of obesity is a major concern for America, as it increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions. Promoting healthy lifestyles is important to Aetna and the Aetna Foundation. This proposal category seeks community-based health education, prevention and early detection efforts aimed at fighting obesity.
Preference will be given to programs that incorporate and/or demonstrate impact on one or more of the following:
- Family and/or caregiver involvement
- Physician education programs
- Worksite programs
- Community care delivery (mobile clinics, Promotoras, etc.)
- School-based implementation
- Developing innovative partnerships
- Linkages to ongoing preventive and sustainable care
HEALTH LITERACY
Aetna believes that health literacy is an important component of health communication, medical product safety and overall health and wellness. Further, we recognize (and substantial research has documented) that improving health literacy can improve physical health and quality of life. Through www.planforyourhealth.com, Aetna helps consumers better understand their health care benefit options and the connection between health care and financial well-being.
Proposals must incorporate and/or demonstrate impact in one or more of the following:
- Plain language approach to communications
- Public education and awareness programs
- Training and education for health care professionals, staff and patients

Healthy Community Outreach Program
Awards will be granted to nonprofit organizations to support grassroots efforts that
increase awareness of critical health
initiatives through health walks, health fairs and health education outreach. Grants of up to
$25,000 will be considered. Please
provide all levels of event sponsorships on your application. Funding decisions and notifications will be
made throughout the year while all notifications will be made by November 1, 2009.
