Eligibility
Nonprofit organizations with evidence of IRS 501 [c] (3) designation or de facto tax-exempt status may apply for a grant, with the following exceptions:
- Advertising;
- Capital campaigns;
- Fund-raising activities, including tables, tickets, dinners, walks, sporting events, etc.;
- Grants or scholarships to individuals;
- Political causes or events; or
- Religious organizations in support of their sacramental or theological functions.
General Grants Program Guidelines
- Grant requests ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 will be considered.
- Multiyear funding requests will not be considered.
- Organizations may submit only one application per market.
- The number of grants and total dollars awarded will depend upon the quantity and quality of applications received, availability of resources, and criteria outlined in this text. Grants will not necessarily be awarded at the full amount requested. The minimum award is $25,000, and the maximum award is $50,000. Submission of an application is not a guarantee of funding.
- Proposals will be evaluated based on criteria met and potential for impact.
- If Aetna or the Aetna Foundation has supported your organization during 2006 or 2007, you must provide an interim report with the application. The upload for submission of an impact report is provided within the online application. If you do not include the impact/interim report, your application will be ineligible for consideration.
- Organizations receiving funding in the current calendar year for a multiyear grant are not eligible. Also, while organizations may apply for more than one program, the Foundation will fund only one grant per organization in a calendar year.
- Proposals are accepted only through the Aetna Foundation's online system. We encourage early submission to avoid last-minute submission problems. We are unable to grant extensions to stated deadlines for any reason.
- We are unable to respond to inquiries about a proposal's status during the review period.
- If your proposal is declined, we will notify you via e-mail according to the schedule below.
- The Foundation does not provide individual feedback on applications.
