The 1986 Calendar of Black History
Aetna's 1986 calendar focused on African Americans who quietly made a significant contribution to society. It was Lulu Vere Childers who helped to build and evolve the music program at Howard University. It was explorer James Pierson-Beckwourth who helped open the migration to California when he discovered a pass in Sierra Nevada. And it was Ensign Jesse Leroy Brown who died honorably while flying over Korea in 1950. More than 20 years later, the U.S. Navy christened an ocean escort ship the U.S.S. Jesse L. Brown in his honor.
