Merville C. Marshall Jr., M.D. - President, The Endocrine Institute, White Plains, New YorkDiabetes
Photo of Merville C. Marshall Jr., M.D.'Diabetes is especially prevalent among African Americans, Hispanics and Asians; and profoundly affects the health of these and other ethnic groups. If diabetes were controlled tomorrow, fewer patients would suffer blindness, amputations, kidney failure and heart disease. Longevity and quality of life would greatly improve.'
Merville C. Marshall Jr., M.D., president of The Endocrine Institute, White Plains, New York, and formerly associate chief of endocrinology at New York Medical College, is one of the best doctors around. New York magazine thinks so and gave him its coveted "Best Doctor in New York" title; so did the Westchester Spotlight and other publications. But his academic colleagues and students have also labeled him "the best," showering him with research and teaching awards. Indeed, "I'm a teacher at heart," muses Dr. Marshall, pointing out that medical textbooks are quickly outdated, but training a physician in the process of acquiring and analyzing information imparts knowledge that lasts a lifetime. Dr. Marshall's latest move toward eliminating health disparities is his new venture as president of The Endocrine Institute, whose mission is to provide holistic premier care and management of diabetes and other endocrine diseases.
