Health care reform

Aetna’s work to transform health care in America

We are helping solve the challenges facing the health care system. Our goal is to get everyone covered, improve the quality of health outcomes, and provide better value for each dollar spent on care. As health care reform legislation moves through Congress, we continue to play an active role.

Aetna works with state and federal leaders to develop a collaborative approach to achieving comprehensive health care reform.

  • This year we are fully engaged in helping to make reform a reality, offering guidance and data to members of Congress and White House staff.
  • In 2008, we played a key role in helping to pass mental-health parity legislation.
  • In 2007 we introduced our own comprehensive proposal for transforming the health care system.
  • In 2005, we became the first national health care company to advocate an individual coverage requirement to help address the problem of the uninsured.

Chairman and CEO Ron Williams' testimony before Congress
In March 2009, Aetna Chairman and CEO Ronald A. Williams delivered oral comments to members of the Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee and answered questions on how best to address health care reform. Less than a month later, Williams returned to Capitol Hill to participate in a roundtable discussion with members of the Senate Finance Committee on how best to tackle reform. He also provided written testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee in June 2009.
