Jeff D. Emerson

Senior Vice President
Health Care Management and the Regions

Photograph of Jeff D. EmersonJeff D. Emerson is Senior Vice President and head of Aetna Health Care Management (HCM) and the Regions. He is responsible for managing medical costs, promoting quality, and improving access to affordable, effective health care. These are critical parts of Aetna’s commitment to put the people who use our services at the center of everything we do. He supports this commitment by harnessing the talents and dedication of the more than 4,500 employees in the HCM organization.

He also is responsible for the Regions’ local market strategies and operations. He works closely with regional leaders to strengthen Aetna’s local market presence through network development, medical cost management, underwriting and sales (except National Accounts) activities.  
Mr. Emerson has more than 20 years of diverse leadership experience in the health care sector and came to Aetna from the NorthEnd Group, LLC, a privately held consulting company specializing in health care services and information technology. Prior to his role as President of NorthEnd, he served in a number of senior leadership roles including Executive Vice President of ValueOptions Public Sector business and Chief Information Officer for Magellan Health Services. He also served as President of Cigna’s Mid-Atlantic Region where he was responsible for 2 million members, $4 billion in revenues, and more than 800 employees.

Mr. Emerson has served on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Symphony, the House of Ruth, Hospice of Prince George's and NYLCare/Mid-Atlantic. He is a Trustee of Bowdoin College. He graduated, with honors, from Bowdoin College with an AB in Theology, and he has a MS in computer and information systems from American University.
