From 1994 to 2011, Earl G. Graves served Aetna as a member of its Board of Directors.
An entrepreneur and distinguished business leader, Mr. Graves can be counted among America’s groundbreaking individuals. Through his courage, determination and leadership, he broke through barriers and inspired generations in their quest to overcome racial barriers and achieve business success and economic freedom. As a humanitarian, Mr. Graves has fought for civil rights, giving voice to those who have been disenfranchised and marginalized. He is a champion of economic parity, educational equality and social and political opportunity for all.
Mr. Graves brought his entrepreneurial spirit to Aetna’s board, providing valuable marketing, consumer and brand insights and helping to inform decision making and shape our business strategies. During his tenure, Mr. Graves served on the Board’s Audit, Executive, and Nominating and Corporate Governance committees. His unique perspective and set of experiences also strongly influenced and broadened Aetna’s view of diversity to include not only diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, age and sexual orientation, but also diversity of thoughts, ideas and capabilities.
In addition to his service on Aetna’s board, Mr. Graves has served as chairman and chief executive officer of Earl G. Graves, Ltd. since 1972. He is the Managing Partner of Graves Ventures, Inc. and also the Publisher of Black Enterprise magazine, which he founded in 1970. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Aetna Foundation, Inc. and the Black Enterprise B.R.I.D.G.E. Foundation.
We are proud of our long association with Mr. Graves and thank him for his years of service to Aetna.
